The venue’s flagship hotel, Live! by Loews-Arlington, designed by HKS Architects, will be a 14-story glass tower with 302 guest rooms, including 26 suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows giving wide views of Arlington’s entertainment district.
The hotel “will be the first of its kind in the country, providing guests an unprecedented upscale experience that blends sports and entertainment with first-class hospitality and superior amenities,” the Rangers and Texas Live! developer Cordish Cos. said in a statement.
The 200,000-square-foot Texas Live! complex, featuring restaurants, sports bars and other venues, is under construction and projected to open next April, in time for a new baseball season. The hotel is now expected to open in 2019.
Jonathan Tisch, chairman and CEO of Loews Hotels & Co., said in a statement that the partnership with the Rangers and Cordish will allow Loews to return to Texas “after a more than 20-year hiatus and presents what we plan is the first of several new hotels under the Live! by Loews partner brand.”
The complex will be located between Globe Life Park and AT&T Stadium and adjacent to where a new $1 billion retractable-roof stadium for the Rangers will be built in time for the 2020 season.
The Loews hotel will boost Arlington’s understocked inventory of 6,000 hotel rooms, officials said. The city needs about 2,000 more rooms “to host the myriad events we bring into Arlington on an annual basis,” said Ron Price, president and CEO of the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau. He noted that Fort Worth has 13,600 hotel rooms and Dallas has more than 82,700.
“We need hotels,” Price said Thursday. “Loews is an incredible brand. This will be something very unique, not just for Arlington but for the surrounding area. They are extremely nice hotels and attract visitors and clientele that Arlington is looking for.”
Michael Jacobson, president and CEO of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, said the Loews will be Arlington’s “most luxurious hotel, and as or more luxurious than any hotel in the Metroplex.”
“With the Cordish family, the Tisch family, our Rangers family investing billions in Arlington, it tells me something about the future of Arlington — and that future is bright,” Jacobson said.
New York-based Loews owns and/or operates 24 hotels and resorts in the U.S. and Canada. The Live! by Loews hotel’s amenities will include a Tower Terrace and Event Lawn, a 40-foot tall, 60-foot wide veranda-style swath cut through the hotel tower; an outdoor infinity-edge pool and an outdoor rooftop terrace for private events.
The two-story, 35,000-square-foot convention space, called the Grand Event Center, will have a glass facade for scenic views, a 1,500-seat grand ballroom, an executive boardroom with five additional meeting rooms, and a 1,500-square-foot outdoor terrace overlooking Johnson Creek and the entertainment district.
