Eight people — including the suspect — are dead and two others are hospitalized after being shot in a Plano home.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of West Spring Creek Parkway near Blue Ridge Trail.

Police were called to the home on a report of shots fired. An officer who was nearby responded to the call and heard shots when he arrived. He went inside the home and fatally shot a male suspect.

“He actually heard gunshots and that’s when he made entry into the house,” Plano police spokesman David Tilley said, according to CBS 11. “That’s when he observed several victims inside, then engaged the suspect. And that’s when he shot him.”

“I’ve been here all my life,” Tilley added, according to The Dallas Morning News. “I’ve never heard of anything like this.”

An eyewitness told WFAA-TV that she heard 30 to 40 shots. Some witnesses said the shooting occurred during a Cowboys watch party, but police could not confirm that.

Stacey Glover, who lives in the neighborhood, told the Morning News she saw people laughing and grilling outside earlier. Then she heard gunshots about 8 p.m. She said she heard police who arrived yell “Hands up!” before more shots rang out.

No officers were injured. The condition of the two people taken to the hospital was not immediately known.

Police did not immediately say what the relationship between the shooter and the victims was or what his motive might have been.

Tilley said police are executing a search warrant at the home and gathering evidence.

“We anticipate that’s going to probably be a very lengthy process,” he told WFAA. He advised people to avoid the area through rush hour.

The Texas Rangers will conduct an investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
