Jeers: For the excuses about the sorry Cowboys. Ezekiel Elliott’s performance as well as Dak Prescott’s and Dez Bryant’s were awful. Give credit to those who stepped up their performances: Brice Butler, Alfred Morris and Rod Smith had almost as many yards as Elliott. Get rid of him, Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones.

Cheers: To Vonne at the Southwest Regional Library, who is always helpful. Once when she wasn’t able to locate my requested book, she researched the title and discovered that it wasn’t a book but a magazine article, and then provided me with a written link to the article.

Cheers: To Philip Mortimer of Wedgwood East, who stopped his car to rescue an injured dog and brought it to a vet, paid for care, and refused to share the cost. When he gets to heaven, may all the dogs he has helped run to greet him.

Jeers: To the lack of attention to the Texas Bowl (Texas vs. Missouri) Dec. 27. A slap in the face to thousands of Texas exes in the area.

Cheers: To the people who treated me and my wife to dinner at Boo-Rays on Dec. 27. It meant a lot to this old veteran, and we will pay it forward. Thanks again!

Jeers: Why wasn’t the new West Seventh Street Bridge sanded the night before it iced over? We saw over two dozen cars and trucks (also a city bus) damaged until the bridge was sanded at 12:40 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. We all had plenty of warning of the coming winter mix!

Cheers: To the Fort Worth Fire Department Engine 36 “C” Shift. On Jan. 3, firefighters from 36 took the time to chat with some children while away from the station. It was a very special moment for the kids. Hurray!

Cheers: To Toni Parker and Bruce and Mary Carroll for loaning — and even delivering to us — tables and chairs for our annual family Christmas chili supper and birthday party for Jesus on Christmas Eve. What a blessing to have such good and thoughtful neighbors and friends!

Cheers: To the Texas Health Resources Harris Methodist team, which saved my life Dec. 22. Alec M., Sarah K., Derek T., CathLab Team, Dr. Scott Ewing and Dr. Taylor/ER. Missing names of intake lady who got me through to the ER so quickly and the ER nurse who cared for me. Thank you all!

Cheers: To those who jog for miles to have a healthy heart. Jeers to those who can’t walk 3 feet to return a shopping cart.

Cheers: To Matt and Allison, pharmacists at the Colleyville Walmart Neighborhood Market. Matt and Allison and their staff are always so knowledgeable and helpful with medications. They call us by name and are never too busy to answer our questions.

Cheers: For printing Ed Wallace’s entire article in the newspaper. Some of us refuse to go to the internet for any news and were missing half of this modern-day prophet’s insights into U.S. history, society, politics and oh, yeah, the automotive state-of-affairs!

Cheers: To Home Depot in Granbury, especially Jimmy and the person in customer service who were so considerate and helpful when my husband wasn’t feeling well while we were shopping. They went out of their way to help us.

Cheers: To the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth for acquiring equipment for people with vision loss to enjoy certain movies through Magnolia at the Modern. These people now can access a headset that provides an audio description of the movie’s action without interrupting the dialogue. What a gift!

Cheers: For carrying Leonard Pitts’ column. He restores sanity in an insane time.

Jeers: To all who race up and down Denton Highway in Haltom City between East Belknap Street and Interstate 820. Your stupidity only places the safe drivers at risk. Grow up! Local law enforcement must stop it!

Cheers: To Dr. Huddleston and staff at Complete Care Pantego ER for discovering my heart A-fibrillation Dec.18. I went in for chest congestion. Dr. Huddleston quickly did an EKG, X-rays and blood tests. She is highly skilled, and her staff is the best. .

Cheers: To Assistant City Manager Rex Phelps, and especially Heather Rawson in the Haltom City city manager’s office. Heather went out of her way to help solve a trash problem I had. Neither Heather nor Rex treated me like an ogre for expecting the trash pickup service for which I pay.

Jeers: To Hollywood for its half-hearted attempt to bring the issue of sexual assault and sexual harassment to the spotlight at the Golden Globes with their black attire, little pins and smoke-and-mirror speeches. This is on the heels of years and years of Hollywood cover-up.

Cheers: To the nice man who walked up to me and my sister at the Little Road Walmart on Jan. 2, told me “someone was looking out for me” and handed me an envelope with $140. So nice to be acknowledged! Your kindness will be passed on!

Cheers: To the Brookshire’s in Willow Park, which has continued to support both the teachers and students at our campus in Aledo ISD. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers: To Everman United Methodist Church in its second decade of providing an inviting and safe place for Everman High School students after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “Hangin’ Out” is a community mission that feeds 250-300 students! Volunteers run the program.

Cheers: To the firefighters from Fort Worth Fire Station 16. Your quick response kept my neighbor from having a major fire. You were so helpful in removing her animals from the house so they wouldn’t be injured.

Cheers: To Fort Worth, Tarrant County and the Fort Worth ISD for working together to expand Trinity Park and extend Trail Drive in west Fort Worth. This project will convert 9 acres of property into greenspace in Trinity Park and make traffic connections easier..

Cheers: For the annual Euless Christmas tree recycling event on Jan. 6. There were good food, drinks, a tree giveaway and great atmosphere. A special thanks to Euless parks manager Terry, superintendent Dan for grilling, and Randy and Aaron for collecting the trees and chipping them into mulch.

Cheers: To the pharmacist, Thanh, and her staff at the Walgreens on Walnut Creek for her help in saving me money on my prescription and keeping their professionalism even though two other customers were being very loud and rude to them.

Cheers: To the nice gentleman in the Sur La Table parking lot for checking on me after a car hit my parked car. It was much appreciated.

Cheers: To Mid Cities Corp. for the help that it gave me for cutting a tree down and keeping my mom from losing her home insurance. It was done in record time.

Cheers: To the Fort Worth Water Department, which worked in below-freezing weather fixing a broken line that affected the Park Hill neighborhood. We don’t appreciate those workers enough.
