A halftrack takes on fuel as the Bankhead Highway Convoy of historic military vehicles stops in Fort Worth on Oct. 6. Special to the Star-Telegram

Cheers: To the city of Fort Worth and in particular Councilman Zim Zimmerman and his aide Sandi Breaux, who provided an outstanding welcome for the Bankhead Highway Convoy on its way from Washington, D.C., to San Diego. They spent a much-needed rest day in town, and members of the mile-long convoy of restored military vehicles were still talking about the hospitality and support when they exited the state in El Paso five days later.

Cheers: To Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Brandon Weeden. You’re a winner! The team deserted you and deserve the loss, not you. An 84.6 percent pass-completion percentage was superb. You can’t win if you don’t have the ball. Hoping better times are ahead for you.

Harry Price, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the landscape company that is letting the fig ivy grow on one of the most beautiful brick walls in Fort Worth on Crestline Road.

J.A. Thompson, Fort Worth

Jeers: To a large supermarket chain that at least once a month offers specials that say buy one and get two or three free. Example: On chicken, the ads say buy one and get two free, but the chicken is priced at double what it is normally.

David Leadbetter,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To Gonzalo, the manager, and Bertrand, a server, at the Red Lobster restaurant in North Richland Hills for excellent service and outstanding food during a most enjoyable luncheon for 22 members from St. Luke United Methodist Church. You both were so patient and kind. Sincere thanks to both of you!

Barbara J. Jones,

North Richland Hills

Jeers: To diners at Miss Saigon Cafe on Camp Bowie Boulevard at lunchtime Oct. 7. They were overheard joking about the homeless man they offered to bring leftovers to and were offended that he didn’t want their doggie bag. Those less fortunate are still entitled to some degree of dignity.

Celeste Greene,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To Dr. Elaine Paik at Family Health Care Associates on Glenview Drive. For the first time since my doctor of 25 years retired, I feel I’ve found someone who is attuned to my personal needs rather than the “one size fits all” approach. Thank you, Dr. Paik, for helping me on the road to getting my life back. I’m bumping 80 and, with your assistance, I might make 90 or better.

J.W. Robbins, Haltom City

Cheers: To Cindy Foster and family for that incredible act of random kindness shown by your gift of “Elvis” stamps simply because you heard me ask the postage clerk when they might be available. You and your family will always be among my very favorite patients!

Dr. Fred Murphy,

Richland Hills

Jeers: To the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, key players are out, but the rest of the team needs to rally around the current quarterback and wide receiver.

N.K. Altaras, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the Fort Worth Parks and Community Services workers who were trimming trees on a recent Monday on Ryan Avenue. They were kind enough to give me some rounds of wood for my husband’s woodworking hobby. Thanks again!

Jana Stukanov,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the two MedStar ambulance crews, the operator from Ron’s Towing, the police and especially the fine crew from Fire Station No. 7 who handled the auto accident in front of our house on Oct. 3. They did a great job. Thank goodness the passengers were wearing seat belts.

Mike and Susan Kennemer, Fort Worth

Jeers: To Tarrant Regional Water District directors. Not all residents were in favor of the Trinity River Vision. Since the board proceeded without a citizen vote, could they at least use TV and newspaper and save the huge cost of fancy “update” mailers?

Beth Flomer, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the nice family who paid for the dinners of a couple of senior citizens Oct. 4 at Prima’s Pasta and Pizza in Fort Worth. Thanks for your kindness.

Arnold Barkman,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To a lovely lady named Carolyn who found and returned my lost ring. This ring is very special to me because it’s a remount of my original wedding ring and is almost 50 years old. I can never thank Carolyn enough because she is a very special angel.

Polly Maples, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the couple sitting next to me on Oct. 4 in Section 330, Row 6, at the Texas Rangers game. They were enthusiastic fans. When she went to get ice cream, she brought back an extra Drumstick for me. Totally unexpected, but very much enjoyed. Thanks.

Judy Goldthorp, Euless

Cheers: To the woman who found my wallet at Ridgmar mall in Fort Worth and drove to Weatherford to deliver it to the police department. It is so refreshing to see humanity at its best. Everything, including the cash, was still there. I am so grateful.

Lewie Shayde Wood,

Fort Worth

Jeers: To an ambulance agency that charged $1,495 to haul a guy with a minor injury less than a mile from a car wreck to a hospital, and then destroyed his credit when he couldn’t pay it. Jeers also to that city’s council for condoning such highway robbery at $1,500 per mile.

Hal Monk, Bedford

Cheers: To J.D. at Watauga Automotive for excellent, honest service with reasonable prices.

James Washington,

Watauga

Jeers: To Bell Helicopter for conducting low-level training flights over residential sections of Keller. Please be a good neighbor and train over less populated areas.

Calvin Reeves, Keller

Jeers: To the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, which still has not acted on a written complaint I filed on Nov. 10, 2014, against a Fort Worth dentist, alleging that this dentist failed to provide quality of care, violated professional conduct and provided treatment falling below acceptable standards of care.

Evelyne Neimand,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the four teenaged boys who found a wallet while playing soccer on the Grace Lutheran Church property on Oct. 4 and turned it into the church with driver’s license, school ID and debit cards intact. The wallet has been returned to the owner.

Thomas J. Jordan Jr.,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the students and staff at Keller and Keller Central High schools for their spectacular “Pink” football game and halftime show at the KISD stadium. A big donation to Breast Cancer Awareness, a tense gridiron battle, a stupendous halftime show. Well done!

Burt Ballentine, Keller

Jeers: To the deejay at the Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center homecoming celebration. If I walked down the halls of the school repeating the four-letter words in some of the songs he played at this elementary school party, I could be arrested for disorderly conduct. There must be wholesome popular music to choose.

Rosemary C. Lindsey,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To Saint-Émilion Restaurant for calling after our group of seven had one of the restaurant’s bistro dinners to say that “too large a tip” had been left. After we declined a refund, the restaurant said it was mailing a gift certificate for future use. Impressive integrity (and wonderful food).

Linda Eakman,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To Lourdes Orrantia, general manager of the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Restaurant in Benbrook. Lourdes was named general manager of the year in her section of Cracker Barrel locations. Through her leadership, business is booming, while customers are welcomed with courtesy, outstanding service and food that is of genuine quality. Thanks to all employees.

Haskell Dotson,

Benbrook

Cheers: To the wonderful lady who paid for my purchase at Wal-Mart Sept. 21 when I realized I had left my wallet somewhere inside the grocery store. Cheers to the honest person who turned it in and to the clerk who found it for me.

Pat Loffer, Keller

Cheers: To Frank Taylor of Service King Collision Repair Center on Kingswood Drive for the excellent service regarding the bumper on my Camry.

Virginia Barkman,

Fort Worth
