Mansfield Timberview Class of 2017 graduate Chennedy Carter made history Sunday night, scoring 31 points to break the single-game scoring record for the USA Women's Under-19 national team.

It came in an 86-82 loss to Russia during the gold medal game of the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Udine, Italy.

“It really doesn’t mean anything to me,” said Carter in the press release. “Thirty-one points and a loss is really not important to me. I’m glad, and that’s a big deal, but I’d rather have 31 and that gold medal around my neck.”

Carter, who was the Star-Telegram girls basketball player of the year last season, broke A’ja Wilson’s record 30 points that was set in 2015. Wilson led South Carolina to its first NCAA championship last season at American Airlines Center.

The former Timberview standout went 11 of 18 from the field in 23 minutes, and was named to the all-tournament team.

Carter, who helped the Wolves to a Class 5A state runner-up finish, was an all-state pick and 10-5A MVP. She’s set to go to Texas A&M in the fall after signing last year.
