“It really doesn’t mean anything to me,” said Carter in the press release. “Thirty-one points and a loss is really not important to me. I’m glad, and that’s a big deal, but I’d rather have 31 and that gold medal around my neck.”
Carter, who was the Star-Telegram girls basketball player of the year last season, broke A’ja Wilson’s record 30 points that was set in 2015. Wilson led South Carolina to its first NCAA championship last season at American Airlines Center.
The former Timberview standout went 11 of 18 from the field in 23 minutes, and was named to the all-tournament team.
