Mansfield rides Brooks’ 320-yard, seven TD night into next round

Mansfield senior running back Kennedy Brooks rushed for 320 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the Tigers past the Amarillo Tascosa Rebels 54-43 Friday in a Class 6A Division II Region I game at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. Tascosa led 36-27 at halftime. Brooks scored on a 38-yard run just 26 seconds into the second half to cut the Rebel lead to 36-33. Later, the Oklahome Sooners commit scored on a 2-yard run with 10:06 left in the third quarter as Mansfield took the lead for good 40-36. Brooks added a 17-yard scoring run to put the Tigers up 47-36 with 11 seconds left in the third quarter. It was Brooks’ ninth consecutive rushing effort of at least 200 yards.

Key players: Brooks scored on runs of 37, 43, 6, 38, 2, 17 and 27 yards. Brandon White scored on a 12-yard run as Tascosa went ahead 36-27 with 14 seconds left in the half.

Key stats: Mansfield advances to play the winner of Saturday’s Denton Guyer-Cedar Hill matchup. The Tigers join Mansfield ISD Class 5A teams Lake Ridge and Legacy in the third round of the playoffs.

Records: Mansfield 10-2, Amarillo Tascosa 7-5
