Led by quarterback Chandler Rogers and running back Darrius Lee, Mansfield Lake Ridge piled up 719 yards against Dallas Samuell, pulling away in the third quarter Friday for an 87-58 victory in a Class 5A Division I Region II area-round game at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie. While the first half was a shootout, the second half was reminiscent of last year’s playoff game between the teams, which Lake Ridge won 63-12 on its way to the state final.
Key players: The game featured four players who scored three or more touchdowns. Rogers rushed 17 times for 144 yards and four TDs, while Lee gained 209 yards and scored four times on 26 carries. Eagles senior WR Tyler Robinson caught five passes for 141 yards and three TDs. Samuell’s Darionta Choice rushed 13 times for 135 yards and three TDs.
Key stats: The game produced 13 first-half touchdowns, with the teams alternating scoring each time. With Lake Ridge scoring first and last and missing some extra-point attempts, there were 11 lead changes and two ties in the first half. Lake Ridge averaged 27.3 yards on its seven scores; Samuell averaged 49 yards on each of its six touchdowns.
