The third and final week of high school volleyball tournaments around the state concluded on Saturday and some of the local teams performed extremely well once again.
Southlake Carroll, the No. 2 ranked team in the area, went 8-0 to win the PSA Lone Star Circle of Champions. The Dragons swept Colleyville Heritage 25-8, 25-10.
Sophomore hitter Annabelle Smith was awarded with her third all-tournament team of the season and voted Best Offensive Player while TCU commit McKenzie Nichols was named Best Setter. Freshman Natalie Glenn was named tournament MVP.
Heritage, Class 5A’s No. 8 team in the state, had three players named all-tourney. Tulane commit Jillian Dits was named Best Defensive Player. She also made the team last week at the Northwest ISD tournament. Grace Koper and Arkansas commit Lauren Evans also made the team.
Down in Leander, Weatherford, No. 10 in the state (6A) and No. 3 in the area, finished second to Rouse at the Volleypalooza tournament. Texas A&M commits London Austin-Roark and Kaitlyn Rogers were all-tourney. It was Rogers’ second honor of the season. Reagan Hubbard and Carissa Barnes also made the team.
The area’s No. 1 team, Byron Nelson, finished third in Leander. Danielle Duis (Colorado School of Mines) made her third all-tournament team while sophomore Paige Flickinger made it for the second week in a row.
Aledo finished 6-2 in Leander while North Texas commit Sarah Haeussler was named all-tourney.
Arlington won the Arlington Invitational over Waxahachie. TCU commit Katie Clark was named MVP and Ashley Simpson made all-tourney. Waxahachie’s Taylor Stoops also made the team.
Martin won the Arlington Showcase over Paschal. McNeese State commit Emilie Ickes was named MVP and Sofia Viscuso and Nya Blair were all-tourney. It was the second-straight week for Viscuso and Blair while Ickes was all-tourney at the Mansfield ISD tournament. Paschal’s Katie Nance and Abby Hyman also made the team.
District 8-4A teams Glen Rose and Midlothian Heritage finished 1-2 at the Argyle tournament. Glen Rose won in four sets to win its third-straight tournament. The Tigers, Class 4A’s No. 1 team, also won the Division II bracket in Carrollton and the Glen Rose tournament last weekend. Logan Smith won her third MVP award and Mallory Rogers and Libby Hinton made all-tourney. It was Hinton’s third-straight; she was voted Best Hitter in Carrollton. Heritage, which had won back-to-back tournaments too, got all-tourney awards handed out to Julia Valdez and Katie Chambers.
In Euless, the Trinity Trojans hosted their Double T tournament. Junior hitter Hannah Zuege was named all-tourney.
