Indiana’s Myles Turner, a former University of Texas and Euless Trinity High School standout, was named the NBA Eastern Conference rookie of the month, for games played in February.
Turner ranked third among East Conference first-year players in scoring (13.4 points per game), rebounding (6.6) and minutes (29.8). He shot 51.0 percent from the field, the second-best mark for East Conference rookies.
Turner, the 11th overall pick in the draft after playing one season with the Longhorns, recorded his first two career double-doubles during the month and produced a run of nine consecutive double-digit scoring games.
On Feb. 19, Turner scored 16 points and blocked a career-high six shots in a 101-98 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, part of a 4-1 stretch for the Pacers.

February has been a busy month for Turner.
He returned home on Feb. 11 to help Central Junior High present the school’s inaugural player of the year award named in his honor.
The Myles Turner Player Of the Year award is a cumulative award given to the top student athlete in basketball at the school.
In conjunction with establishing the award, Euless Mayor Linda Martin proclaimed Feb. 11 as Myles Turner Day.
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns was the Western Conference rookie of the month.

Feb. 1 vs. Cleveland: He had his first career double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) and added four blocked shots in a 111-106 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
